Can you believe it?! CDS 8th grade graduation is tomorrow night! Thank you so much for an amazing year! I will miss this group of 8th graders especially. They were part of my first class ever when I began teaching here 3 years ago. These kids will hold a special place in my heart and I will be sad to see them go.

Hello all!
The end is in sight! This group of 8th graders seem to be very excited and ready to be high schoolers! With that being said, the importance of staying focused is crucial even though it may seem challenging. We cover some very important content in math that will be foundational for high school math. Also, the material is necessary for success to students planning on taking the John Bapst Algebra placement test. Next Wednesday, 5/16/18 8th graders will be taking the NWEA math test. These scores are looked at by high schools when determining what math class to place students in. Students should strive to do their best on this. If you every have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me through email [email protected] Have a great rest of the school year! Ms. Sanborn Good Morning!
We are gearing up for our 8th grade MEA math testing. 8th grade will be testing tomorrow and Friday 5/5-5/6. Hello All!
Just a friendly reminder that I am providing John Bapst placement test practice Friday mornings at 7:30. I will also make sure to give everyone a few reminders throughout the week in class! Good Morning!
It is getting to be that time of year where we need to start thinking about the John Bapst placement tests! If you or your child is planning to go to John Bapst they have the option to take placement tests which are held in early June. They offer a biology test and an algebra 1 test. These tests will give the school a better idea of what class to start you or your child off in for their freshman year of high school. You can access practice tests for both biology and algebra 1 on the John Bapst website. I will be deciding on one morning per week where I will help students study for the math test if they choose to come. I have already handed out math placement tests to all interested students to begin working. I will update you once I have figured out what day of the week will work best! Ms. Sanborn Students have asked for an extension of their Rube Goldberg Machine project to be completed the Monday we come back from February vacation. Initially, the due date for the project was the Friday before break. To compromise with the students we have agreed upon still needing to complete the calculations for work, force, and kinetic energy on one point of their project by Friday February 16th, but they can submit their final project once we are back Monday, February 26th.
If there are any questions please feel free to contact me by email: [email protected] Thank you, Ms. Sanborn Hello All!
We just started our Rube Goldberg machine project in science. This is a complicated way to complete a simple task using simple machines! The 8th graders seem very excited about this project and have a couple due dates to keep in mind. This Friday, 2/2 their design sketch, a materials list SIGNED by parents, a description of where they will be calculating work, force, and kinetic energy in their machine, and a summary explaining safety precautions and how previous investigations will be helpful to solve this design challenge. The rest of the project which will include building, testing, redesigning and retesting until the machine works will be due including a presentation of their material describing their process on Friday, 2/16 which is the day before February vacation. If you have any questions feel free to send me an email! In math we are currently exploring linear equations in slope-intercept form, standard form, and point-slope form. We are learning how to graph these equations as well as convert them between the different forms. This topic can be challenging to grasp due to its abstract nature but we are getting there! There are so many real world scenarios you can relate to this topic and show that it is something that you use in everyday life without even knowing it! Please feel free to send me an email if you ever have any questions or concerns. Thank you, Ms. Sanborn I apologize that I have not been updating this website with my homework assignments like I used to. I have noticed that none of the students utilize this site for their homework assignments. If there is ever a reason a parent would like to know, I would be more than happy to send out an email with homework notice.
My homework assignments are always posted in my classroom as well as on google classroom so they are capable of accessing their homework online on a different site. If you ever have any questions please feel free to contact me. Thank you, Ms. Sanborn Good Morning,
I wanted to take the time to make sure everyone is updated on my test retake procedure. I have decided to allow students to retake their math tests IF: 1. They have completed corrections on the previous test that they want to retake by the due date given. 2. They show up on the dates and times that I give available for retakes. I will give a day such as Tuesday. The options for retake that day would be Tuesday morning at 7:30am OR that afternoon at 3pm. If for some reason students are unavailable for both times they must come to me to make arrangements for a different day/time. The retake will allow ANY student to make their grade up to whatever they get on the alternate version of the test. |
