We just started our Rube Goldberg machine project in science. This is a complicated way to complete a simple task using simple machines! The 8th graders seem very excited about this project and have a couple due dates to keep in mind. This Friday, 2/2 their design sketch, a materials list SIGNED by parents, a description of where they will be calculating work, force, and kinetic energy in their machine, and a summary explaining safety precautions and how previous investigations will be helpful to solve this design challenge.
The rest of the project which will include building, testing, redesigning and retesting until the machine works will be due including a presentation of their material describing their process on Friday, 2/16 which is the day before February vacation.

In math we are currently exploring linear equations in slope-intercept form, standard form, and point-slope form. We are learning how to graph these equations as well as convert them between the different forms. This topic can be challenging to grasp due to its abstract nature but we are getting there! There are so many real world scenarios you can relate to this topic and show that it is something that you use in everyday life without even knowing it!
Please feel free to send me an email if you ever have any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
